Saban Films has taken U.S. distribution rights to Academy Award Winner James Marsh’s (The Theory of Everything) King of Thieves starring Academy Award Winner Sir Michael Caine (The Quiet American), Academy Award Winner Jim Broadbent (The Iron Lady), Academy Award Nominee Sir Tom Courtenay (45 Years), Golden Globe Nominee Sir Michael Gambon (The King’s Speech), BAFTA Nominee Ray Winstone (The Departed) and Charlie Cox (Daredevil).

Written by Joe Penhall and based on source material from Mark Seal’s Vanity Fair article and The Guardian’s veteran crime reporter Duncan Campbell, the drama revolves around the April 2015 Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company burglary in which robbers allegedly stole over £14 million worth of loot in the biggest heist in UK history.

Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner produced alongside Michelle Wright and Ali Jafaar, with StudioCanal financing. King of Thieves will be released in Q1 2019.

“’King of Thieves’ is led by a stellar British ensemble cast,” said Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley. “The pedigree of Michael, Jim, Tom, as well as Working Title make a very attractive package. We absolutely love this film!”

Bill Bromiley and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal for Saban Films along with StudioCanal and Anne Chérel and Loubna Berrada on behalf of filmmakers.

Thanks to the lackluster response to Justice League, Warner Bros. has had to rethink its plans for the DC Extended Universe films. The Flash‘s solo movie has been one of the projects that’s suffered through several delays. It’s also lost screenwriters and directors along the way. Now, Warner Bros. is closer than even to making The Flash happen, but it’s facing another setback.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. has once again pushed back the release of The Flash in part because of scripting issues. It had been scheduled to begin filming in March 2019, but the new script isn’t finished and the studio wanted more time to get it right. Ezra Miller’s schedule is also a hurtle for this film. Miller played the Flash/Barry Allen in Justice League and briefly appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, Miller is also playing a key role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. He is currently slated to film the third movie in that series next summer.

Now, the earliest that The Flash movie could begin production is in late 2019, after Fantastic Beasts 3 wraps. That would leave the currently untitled film potentially set to hit theaters in 2021, but a formal release date hasn’t been set for The Flash. Spider-Man: Homecoming screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are directing The Flash. Kiersey Clemons was cast as Iris West in Justice League, although she was eventually cut from the film. It’s unknown if Clemons will return for The Flash, or if the character will be recast.

How do you feel about The Flash‘s latest delay? Let us know in the comment section below!

The 10 Best '70s Movie Soundtracks

The 10 Best ’70s movie soundtracks

The 1970s were defined by many things: economic change, politics, fashion, movies, drugs, and, most importantly, music. In addition to disco, this decade also saw the rise of funk, soul, jazz, heavy metal, and punk rock. When folks talk about their favorite albums of the decade, chances are high that there will probably be at least one soundtrack among them. Many soundtracks came out during the ’70s which have gone down in history as some of the best musical albums and collections of all time, and many are renowned for their cultural and historical significance.

Put on your dancin’ shoes and boogie with us as we take a look at the best soundtracks of the ’70s.

Across 110th Street (1972)

Across 110th Street incorporates the best aspects of a cop drama, a heist movie, and a mob movie. It’s a savage, yet wonderfully shot depiction of the racial divide in Harlem as well as an example of corruption on both the highest and lowest levels. The soundtrack and score by Bobby Womack and J.J. Johnson, respectively, make this one of the great soul records of this decade. The composition of the score is pure gritty funk, and the songs by Womack truly convey the imagery of the film: being held down by race and poverty and trying anything you can to break free. The title song was also used in the opening credits of the film Jackie Brown.

American Graffiti (1973)

Directed and co-written by George Lucas, American Graffiti is the seminal “graduation” movie, influencing many films all the way up to Can’t Hardly Wait, Superbad, and beyond. The story follows recent high school grads who spend their final night cruising around town in the summer of 1962 before they all go off to college. This soundtrack went triple platinum upon release, and might be the absolute best collection of rock and doo-wop hits from the ’50s and ’60s. At 41 tracks long, it’s one of the longest soundtracks ever released. The artists include Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, The Beach Boys, and many more.

Lotsa Laughs: The 10 Best ’70s Comedies

The Harder They Come (1972)

The Harder They Come is a fantastic film is about a young singer with dreams of musical stardom who sadly gets involved with drugs and corruption along the way. This soundtrack is not only a great collection of reggae hits, but helped popularize the genre in America. It features many classic singles which were already hits in Jamaica, but the stand-out songs are performed by the film’s star, Jimmy Cliff. The beautiful and melodic “Many Rivers to Cross” was recently featured in Netflix’s Daredevil, and the upbeat and catchy “You Can Get It If You Really Want” has been heard in some recent tacky beer commercials (a shame, because this music deserves much better than that).

Mean Streets (1973)

Mean Streets is an early work of Martin Scorsese which, like many of his films, shows us the dynamics of crime from an insider’s point of view. It is a realistic depiction of New York wiseguy life and the trials and tribulations one debt collector must face in his criminal community. Scorsese has proven time and again that he knows how to use music in his films, and this is no exception, even if this soundtrack has never officially been released. It’s a great collection of Italian, rock, and doo-wop hits. Of course, a Scorsese movie wouldn’t be complete without a couple Rolling Stones songs, too. Check out this handmade list and build your own soundtrack to relive the moments. Catch the film on Amazon.

Saturday Night Fever (1977)

Tony Manero (John Travolta) is a young man with dreams of the future, but the only way to escape his terrible home life is to go to the only place he’s king: the club. Saturday Night Fever is the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time! It was added to the Library of Congress for its cultural significance and won six Grammys. Once you’ve heard it, you’ll understand. It completely encapsulates disco culture in less than 20 tracks. Every song is a hit, including jams from KC and the Sunshine Band, Kool and the Gang, The Trammps, and Yvonne Elliman. The stand-out is brothers Gibb band The Bee Gees, performing what would become their most recognizable songs of all time.

Shaft (1971)

Directed by Gordon Parks, the bad-ass movie Shaft concerns suave detective John Shaft, who gets hired by a local mob boss to help retrieve the boss’ kidnapped daughter only to realize there’s a lot more going on. Originally hired to write a few songs for the movie, Isaac Hayes eventually composed the entire score. This was another soundtrack added to the Library of Congress for cultural significance. While mostly composed of instrumental tracks with just three vocal songs, it’s still Isaac Hayes’ best-known work and the best-selling LP ever released under the Stax label. It’s available on Amazon. Can you dig it?

Super Fly (1972)

Directed by Gordon Parks Jr., Super Fly is an often-times silly portrayal of a cocaine dealer, Youngblood Priest, who wants to make a final score and get out of the pusher life once and for all. The film speaks of the socio-political climate of the times and part of that is due to musician Curtis Mayfield. This soundtrack is so good, it made more money than the actual film. Mayfield’s album is one of the greatest soul records of all time. The outstandingly beautiful music mixed with the socially aware lyrics created an album of pioneering significance. This soundtrack stands on its own and is, in many ways, more important than the movie.

Tommy (1975)

Tommy is a surreal, psychedelic rock opera starring The Who (among many others). It’s about a boy with psychosomatic disabilities who becomes a master pinball player and starts a new religious movement. While the film itself is based on the concept album of the same name, the soundtrack features many more artists along with The Who. The re-recorded music for the film was apparently closer to Pete Townshend’s original intent of the album. Elton John’s version of “Pinball Wizard” was a huge hit when it was released as a single.

Up In Smoke (1978)

Up In Smoke, the first cinematic outing of Cheech and Chong, is a goofy adventure about two stoners who unknowingly smuggle an entire van made of marijuana from Mexico to L.A. This soundtrack is one for the comedy album enthusiasts. It features the best quotes from the film, including the best screaming father of all time, Strother Martin. It also includes the classic hit, “Low Rider” by War, along with every goofy song performed by Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. It’s a shame it doesn’t have the other songs from the Battle of the Bands scenes, but that is forgivable.

The Warriors (1979)

In the slick neo-noir film The Warriors, a tough New York gang is caught on the streets and framed for murder while every other gang in the city is after them. This soundtrack is a quick, fun collection of music from the film featuring Barry De Vorzon, Arnold McCuller, Mandrill, Desmond Child, and Joe Walsh. Many tracks were also re-used for the 2005 Rockstar video game based on the film. Director Walter Hill was always one for using great music in his movies, including his cult ’80s gem, Streets of Fire, which centers around a kidnapped singer.

The head of animation is Julien Bocabeille who is known as the animator on The Boss Baby and Kung Fu Panda 3. Aton Soumache, Dimitri Rassam, Emmanuel Jacomet, Alexis Vonarb and Oliver Stone regular Moritz Borman serve as producers who have also the same producers who have worked on The Little Prince.

The 10 Best '90s Movie Soundtracks

The 10 best ’90s movie soundtracks

Whether it’s a beautifully orchestrated score or a chart-topping hit, certain songs fit with certain movie scenes in a big way. Movie soundtracks have become so common, many movies go into production with the album already in mind. Many directors have already picked out songs for certain scenes before they even film them. It’s hard to listen to Stealers Wheel’s “Stuck in the Middle With You” without picturing Michael Madsen dancing around and cutting someone’s ear off.

Some movie soundtracks are like mixtapes from your favorite directors. Some have one or two hits, then cobble together songs from other bands under the same label. Even if a movie isn’t very good, the soundtrack might still be absolute dynamite. Drop a CD in your boom box as we look at the best movie soundtracks of the ’90s.

Airheads (1994)

Airheads is like a great comedy combination of Dog Day Afternoon and This Is Spinal Tap. A struggling band hijacks a radio station and holds people hostage for a chance at fame. The movie is about rock ‘n’ roll, so the film’s rockin’ record is full of great headbanging hits. It features The Ramones, Prong, Anthrax, Primus, White Zombie, and a track from The Lone Rangers. It also has the movie’s theme song, a version of Motörhead’s “Born to Raise Hell” featuring Ice-T and Whitfield Crane. If what they say in the movie is true, Lemmy isn’t gone; he just went back home.

Escape From L.A. (1996)

Written and directed by John Carpenter, Escape From L.A. was the follow-up to Escape From New York, which was met with mostly negative reviews. While John Carpenter and Shirley Walker created an amazingly funky Western-inspired score, many folks overlooked this awesome song collection featuring Tool, Toadies, Sugar Ray, Deftones, Clutch, Ministry, Tori Amos, and others. It also includes “The One” by White Zombie, written by Rob Zombie specifically for this film. He would then go on to direct the remake of another John Carpenter film, 2007’s Halloween.

Freaked (1993)

Some of you might not have heard of Freaked, but that’s okay. This strange gem from writer/co-director/star Alex Winter is not for everyone. In this comedy, brat pack sleazebag Ricky Coogan is a spokesperson for EES (Everything Except Shoes) who must travel to South America to improve the company’s image. From there, things get weird. The movie is completely un-PC and disgusting, but also wonderful, with some of the best practical effects and costumes of all time. This soundtrack is one of coolest, most rip-roaring of the decade. Featuring Henry Rollins, Blind Idiot God, Butthole Surfers, Paul Leary, and Axiom Funk, this one is a true friggin’ jam fest! The catch is, it’s technically never been released…until now.

Know Your Stuff: Netflix’s Music History ReMastered Docuseries Set for Fall

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, and written by Quentin Tarantino, From Dusk Till Dawn is an awesome action/horror movie about two brothers on the lam who kidnap a family as hostages to get them across the border into Mexico. That’s just the start of the nightmare in store for all of them. This movie also boasts an awesome country rock soundtrack featuring ZZ Top, The Blasters, The Mavericks, Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother Jimmie, and of course Tito and Tarantula, who play the band onstage in the movie. It also has some of the best dialogue snippets from the film, including a colorful speech from Cheech Marin about a certain part of the female anatomy. Check out the movie on Amazon.

Goodfellas (1990)

Possibly one of the best movies about crime ever made, Goodfellas was directed by Martin Scorsese and based on screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi’s book Wiseguy. Scorsese weaves a tale that is fun, dark, and extremely intense. Part of that is due to the songs in the film. While the official soundtrack is a few great tracks from the film, it barely scratches the surface of all the music used. This movie spans several decades, and each and every song captures the time perfectly. (The list is too long to name.) One sequence, near the end, utilizes eight songs in the period of just a few minutes, adding to the already tense scenes. Find the songs yourself and create your own master soundtrack as you watch along on Netflix.

Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)

Grosse Pointe Blank is a funny movie about a contract killer who takes a job in his hometown at the same time as his 10-year high school reunion. The film features fun action and awkward comedy. One of the characters works at the local radio station, playing hits from the past, so this soundtrack is another great collection of classics, like the Violent Femmes, the Clash, Guns N’ Roses, Faith No More, Pete Townshend, David Bowie and Queen. Similar to Goodfellas, there are many more songs from the film that didn’t make it onto the soundtrack.

Mortal Kombat (1995)

This Paul W.S. Anderson film is usually accepted as one of the better video-game based movies of the past. Mortal Kombat‘s music is just as memorable as the fights with one of the best techno/rock movie soundtracks of all time. It introduced many to the likes of Gravity Kills, KMFDM, Orbital, Fear Factory, Napalm Death, Type O Negative, and of course, that recognizable theme song from the Immortals. The awful sequel to this movie also had a cool soundtrack. Watch Mortal Kombat on Netflix.

Music To Our Ears: First Details on High School Musical TV Series Revealed

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Pulp Fiction, the breakout hit from Quentin Tarantino, swept the indie scene and influenced so many filmmakers, a fitting legacy given that the whole movie is inspired by other movies. These interwoven stories about what bad people do when they’re not always being bad changed the movie game and had some truly memorable musical scenes. Featuring some amazing movie quotes and songs from Tarantino’s favorite albums, this soundtrack is a treasure. From Dick Dale to Al Green and Chuck Berry to Urge Overkill, this collection is great for relaxing, dancing, laughing, and loving, even if some songs remind you of awful things. Watch the film and then pick up the soundtrack on Amazon.

SLC Punk (1998)

Set in the ’80s, SLC Punk is the adventures of Stevo and Bob, the only two real punks in Salt Lake City, Utah. This movie is quirky and undeniably funny, but it’ll also sneak up on your emotions. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of punk music probably bought this soundtrack. Exploited, Fear, the Stooges, the Specials, the Ramones, the Dead Kennedys, and more make up this kinetic soundtrack. It’s great for moshing, even if you’re a mod, hippie, or redneck.

Trainspotting (1996)

Trainspotting, directed by Danny Boyle and based on the book by Irvine Welsh, is a brutal look at the Edinburgh drug scene. It’s slick, and funny, but also weird and scary. Right from the opening, the use of music in this movie is fantastic. (Any movie that opens with Iggy Pop is gonna be a crazy one.) This soundtrack was so good, they released a second and both are worth owning. This soundtrack landed on multiple “best of” lists, and with good reason!

Soundtracks have always been an important part of movies, from soothing orchestral melodies to popular songs to rock ‘n’ roll classics. Even silent films had soundtracks. Today that tradition continues. Almost every mainstream picture released includes some form of music. Recently, however, filmmakers have been looking to the past for inspiration. Many modern films include songs from the 1960s to the 1980s. Sometimes they do this to make a historical period come alive. Other times it’s merely because the song fit. Though this annoys some older fans, it really does help introduce great songs to a wider audience. Here are a handful of our favorite modern movie soundtracks.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Unlike most comic book movies, Guardians of the Galaxy includes an absolutely amazing vintage soundtrack featuring songs by Bowie (“Moonage Daydream”) and the Runaways (“Cherry Bomb”). This is because the main character, an Earthman who spent much of his life in space, carries a 1980s Walkman wherever he goes. He often references the pop culture of his home planet, too, which helps bring this otherworldly movie back to earth.

How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2017)

How to Talk to Girls at Parties is a period piece about the punk scene, so of course there’s good music! The film opens with a classic song by the Damned (“New Rose,” which happens to be the first London punk single ever released). Many of the soundtrack’s other songs aren’t historical, however. That’s partly because half the characters are aliens. Still, the quirky mix of classic punk and futuristic dub works.

Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)

Repo! The Genetic Opera began life as a catchy, eccentric, bleakly comedic stage musical in 2002. By 2008, the creators released an oddly-cast film version. It takes place in a world devastated by an epidemic of organ failure. As a result, a company called GeneCo makes a fortune selling organs on special payment plans. If someone can’t pay on time, the infamous Repo Man takes the organs back. Also, in this world of weirdness, everyone loves opera for some reason. Perhaps that’s why they all sing constantly. The music’s surprisingly good, too, considering that Paris Hilton plays a main character. It’s so insanely catchy, people call it the Rocky Horror of this generation.

Get Spooked: Top 10 Horror Movie Soundtracks

T2: Trainspotting (2017)

T2: Trainspotting begins with a modern, electronic soundtrack, then slowly descends into a nostalgic mix of old and new. After all, half the characters (metaphorically) live in the past. They spend too much time remembering more exciting times. Sick Boy and Begbie still hate Renton for his betrayal. Spud still uses skag, though he’s clearly not doing well. They’re all pathetic, watered-down versions of their younger selves. Eventually they must learn to accept that they’re old. The film ends with a Prodigy remix of Iggy Pop’s classic song “Lust For Life.” It’s perfect.

Atomic Blonde (2017)

Based on a graphic novel, Atomic Blonde weaves a complex tale of espionage and betrayal. It’s about an MI6 agent named Lorraine Broughton who is sent to recover a list of all the active spies in Berlin. Things get more complicated from there, including a subplot involving Broughton and a female lover. The filmmakers wanted to breathe life into what could’ve been a stuffy Cold War movie, so they added tons of period (well, early ’80s) music, from Bowie to New Order and the Clash to Siouxsie Sioux.

Sucker Punch (2011)

Critics and audiences alike weren’t exactly fond of Sucker Punch. It tells the sorry tale of a young woman abused by her stepfather. He sends her to a mental asylum to be lobotomized and she deals with this by fantasizing vividly. Half the story takes place in her mind. Music plays a major role, though the songs are all covers. The movie’s star, Emily Browning, sings a few of them, which adds to the feel of the film. It makes the music seem even more fitting. There’s also a surprisingly awesome Skunk Anansie version of the Stooges’ “Search and Destroy.”

Suicide Squad (2016)

Admittedly, Suicide Squad wasn’t so great. The plot made very little sense. None of the characters seemed too likable. It’s probably one of the worst superhero movies of the century. But that soundtrack? Wow. From modern hip-hop to classic rock, it sure sounded cool. The soundtrack album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 100. Also, the trailer’s use of “Ballroom Blitz” introduced glam band Sweet to a whole new generation of listeners.

Hear the Horror: Top 10 John Carpenter Soundtracks

Baby Driver (2017)

Baby Driver is a simple, almost cliche story. The endearingly reluctant criminal nicknamed Baby Driver tries to get legit after paying off his debt. Sadly, there’s always one last job, and as you’d expect, things don’t go so well. This would be just another heist movie if it weren’t for the amazing music. Like an extra-long musical, this sublime movie revolves around its soundtrack. The songs all fit like a glove. If we didn’t know better, we’d think that Focus wrote “Hocus Pocus” specifically for this movie.

The Muppets (2011)

The Muppets helped bring that beloved family of puppets back into the public eye. Though far more child-oriented than the original show and 1979 film, The Muppets is still worth watching. It also included a variety of songs old and new. Some, like “The Rainbow Connection,” originated in earlier Muppet media. Others were written for the movie. There are also a few pop songs, including one by Jefferson Starship. And, at one point, a group of Muppets cover Nirvana’s hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

Rock of Ages (2012)

Rock of Ages isn’t a masterpiece, though it’s still entertaining. It tells the story of a washed-up rock star (Tom Cruise) who is hired by a failing club. The soundtrack consists primarily of heavy metal and ’80s glam covers. From Guns and Roses to Journey, Twisted Sister to Bon Jovi. Even the more ridiculous songs managed to seem epic. On the Billboard charts, the soundtrack album peaked at No. 5. The filmmakers also hired a few actors with musical backgrounds, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, who began her career in London’s West End. That always helps.

io9 reports that James Gunn, who was previously fired from Marvel and Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, is in talks to pen the script for DC’s Suicide Squad 2 and may also direct the untitled sequel. The new Suicide Squad movie will reportedly be a different take on the characters and not a direct follow-up.

Back in July, Walt Disney Studios dismissed Gunn from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to Gunn’s past controversial tweets. Despite this, the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s main cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Bautista, who all still supported him and asked for Disney to reinstate Gunn as the film’s director.

Earlier this year, director James Gunn revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be released in 2020. Filming was scheduled to start this Fall in Atlanta, but it is unknown if the film will keep to this schedule. The third Guardians film was meant to be the final outing for the original team lineup, and set up future films in the cosmic arena of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Suicide Squad was released in 2016 and earned about $750 million worldwide. Made for $175 million before marketing expenses, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (AliThe Pursuit of Happyness), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall StreetFocus), Joel Kinnaman (Netflix’s “House of Cards”), Viola Davis (The HelpDoubt), Jai Courtney (Insurgent), Jay Hernandez (Takers), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Thor: The Dark World), Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors), Scott Eastwood (Fury), Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns), Adam Beach (Cowboys & Aliens), and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut. The comic book adaptation was written and directed by David Ayer for Warner Bros. Pictures.

8 Movie Franchises That Tend To Reboot

8 movie franchises that frequently reboot

Many Hollywood franchises are based on popular intellectual property and belong to major studios. Nonetheless, sometimes those franchises run out of steam. An unpopular installment, trouble with the cast and crew, the sale of character rights, or any other number of reasons can require a fresh start. (Maybe more than one fresh start in some cases.) A reboot might be good for business and can indeed bring a franchise successfully back into theaters. When too many reboots happen, however, timelines become confusing. Here are some characters that have seen frequent reboots and which might very well see future ones.

1. Terminator

James Cameron’s Terminator 2 became one of the most successful and beloved action films of all time. Sadly, its sequels didn’t have the same fate. While Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines did fairly well with critics and at the box office, the fourth installment Terminator: Salvation was a financial disappointment, so much so that its producers filed for bankruptcy afterwards. Paramount got the rights and attempted a reboot with Terminator: Genisys, which also flopped. Finally, James Cameron is set to regain rights to the franchise in 2019 and have it rebooted again. Hopefully it’ll be done right this time.

2. Halloween

The 1978 Halloween inspired many slasher films, including many Halloween reboots. Halloween 3 was a stand-alone story while Halloween H20 ignored everything after Halloween II. Rob Zombie then directed two films set after the first film and this year a new Halloween reboot is set to hit theaters. Hopefully it lasts more than two movies.

3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Horror film The Texas Chain Massacre shocked minds and became a cult classic. It also became one of those IPs that gets shifted around from studio to studio. That lead to a Michael Bay-produced remake and sequel before those were also ignored by 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D, which only recognized the 1974 original. While that film was successful, it’s sequel wasn’t and we’re up for another reboot.

4. G.I. Joe

With toys as popular and well-known as this, how is it that Paramount still can’t get a lasting franchise? After  2009’s G.I. Joe flopped, Paramount didn’t want to throw in the towel. The company asked director Jon Chu to make the next film as both a reboot and a sequel. Somehow, he managed to do it and G.I Joe: Retaliation did pretty well at the box office, though it went through lots of production troubles and a long delay. The next scheduled installment, supposedly called G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant, is reportedly in development and is also (surprise surprise) supposed to serve as both a reboot and a sequel as well as be part of a new cinematic universe. Prepare for lots of action and adventure as well as quite a bit of confusion.

5. Batman / Superman

Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan did two fantastic Batman series. Richard Donner’s Superman film continues to be beloved all around the world. Yet both characters appear to be in limbo. They’ve had unpopular installments throughout the years, such as Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin and Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns. Although Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill both did an excellent job as their respective heroes in the most recent movie canon, it’s unclear whether they’ll get to reprise them again. Can we just get someone to play Batman or Superman for more than five years?

Any Day Now: The Longest Times Between Movie Sequels

6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The pizza-loving, crime-fighting turtle brothers have inspired many TV shows, comic books, and merchandise, but when it comes to feature films, they don’t provide steady material. The first two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in the ’90s were big hits, but the third installment disappointed financially. There were no further films until 2007, when an animated reboot came along after Viacom got rights to the characters, but that film didn’t get sequels either. In 2014, a Michael Bay-produced reboot starring Megan Fox arrived. It made enough money and wasn’t as terrible as some expected. Its sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, didn’t do well enough at the box office, however, so Paramount now has plans to reboot the series once again. It almost seems like an infinite loop of reboots. At least fans have a steady supply of TMNT television show and comics.

7. King Kong / Godzilla

For many decades, both King Kong and Godzilla have been portrayed in many films and reboots. Kong was remade in 2005 and 2016; Godzilla got his remakes in 2014 and 2016. But now that both Kong and Godzilla are part of the new MonsterVerse, they’re set to face off once again in 2020. At least that’s under one house.

8. Hitman

In 2007, Hitman got slammed by critics but made a lot of money. A sequel wasn’t made, but a reboot came along in 2015; it bombed big time. Now we’re back at the drawing board, with the main character to be portrayed in a Hulu show next. Maybe that will have some continuity.
